President's Letter to the Members of the Nipmuc
Ski Club - 5/16/04 |
|
Dear Fellow Skiers, Another season will begin on Thursday, June 3rd @ 6 PM. We will have a SHORT club meeting, a brief safety review and then some open skiing. I will do my best to have 2 boats for this evenings activities. Normally, we have one boat each night for June ski nights (6 PM till dark Mon & Thurs) and 2 for each ski night during July & August) At the moment, we are in somewhat of a pinch regarding boat availability. If you/we will be able to use your boat for an occasional night, please let me know as soon as possible. Please let me remind you that dues are payable BEFORE the season starts. ..also, SHOWING membership in the USA Water Ski Ass. is MANDATORY. If you are not on the "PAID & Qualified" list by Monday, June 7, you will not be able to participate in our activities AND your membership opening will be made available to new members wishing to join. We do not have an infinite number of memberships available ! Randy asked me today whether or not we would be able to provide a ski show for the Webster Lake Association ( sometime in July). I told him that I could not personally provide the time, boat & energy that is necessary for a show...if there is someone who can & wants to chair a show, please let me know. A few general comments regarding conduct in & around the ski club.... Equipment that you use should be returned PROPERLY to where you found it. While we want everyone to enjoy the facilities, remember that running on the docks and/or swimming in areas where the boats drive must not be done. More experienced skiers should ALWAYS provide a helping hand to new skiers...remember, YOU were once a NEW skier yourself ! Be considerate of the skiers following you...be READY TO GO when the boat drops off the skier ahead you. Be available to observe from time to time. The observer should be at least 12 years old. While we always want skiers to improve, remember that you most likely cannot go from skiing on two skis the first night to skiing slalom on the second night. Tell / ask the boat crew what you want to do so they can make suggestions for you to increase your abilities . Attempting to progress without guidance could result in injury. We have many talented skiers/wakeboarders in our club...ask them to show you how...YOU can progress as much or as little as YOU want to ! SAFETY & COURTESY are always part of the water ski experience.
On saturday, June 12th, there will be a TEAM CHALLENGE ( slalom only)...this will be the 20th year and will be hosted this year by Cedar Lake Ski Club. This is a "fun " tournament, each club may have a maximum of 10 slalom skiers....if you can get up on a slalom ( or even if you can't) you can compete and help YOUR team....let me know if you are interested....the tournament usually starts at 7:30AM and is finished by noon....it is a GREAT way to get to know skiers from other local clubs.
