President's Letter to the Members of the Nipmuc
Ski Club - 10/23/03 |
Dear fellow member, This will be a compendium of things that I think you should know about. We hope to make next season, our 50th(more or less due to a couple of inactive years), one of the best ever. . . BUT it will take some effort by EACH of us. We are having a general meeting Tuesday, October 28th at 7pm at the Colonial Restaurant. Please be there if you can. The car show turned out to be "not too bad" considering the weather reports that preceded that weekend. Total profit should be in the high $600s. The LIONS-said that while the number of entries was about the same, the # of spectators was way down. My personal thanks to each of you who were able to give some of your time. Looking over the list of 2003 membership, I saw a name (Simpsons) tat I sure don't remember meeting, or is it my early Alzheimer's kicking in? I counted 20 individual memberships and 9 family for a total of 49 members. . . of course, not all are skiers. . .I didn't see Peter (from Boston) or Leandra's sister & sons listed, will check with Buzzie about them. . . A couple of things for next season. . .our 50th anniversary. . .a committee is needed to get this function off the ground if we are to do anything with it. . .at the moment, I would be happy with an informal get-together with snacks, memorabilia, etc & send out invitations to any/all past members. . . how far we go with this is up to YOU. . . no one of us can do it on our own. . .this is not the Kokernak (or Wade or whomever) Ski Club, this is the NIPMUC SKI CLUB. . . each of you are needed for everything we do. . .some can do more, some less, but you ARE needed. The Jim Place Memorial Plaque is up. . . very much appreciated by his family. I have been thinking (with the Board's permission) of getting some sections of new, aluminum/wood docks for the "main" section that we use. . . don't have a price yet, but they are quite expensive. Building our own would certainly be cheaper, but again, we are talking about the TIME involved. . .I would prefer to build our own & use the savings for new Equipment. . . what would YOU rather do? I would like to have our summer meetings right at the ski club. . .we could have a meeting there & still have time for a round of skiing. . . better than having 8 (or less) members at a general meeting. . . should we have a ski night devoted to wake boarders, Slalom skiers or whatever? . . . you have to let us know. . . perhaps an occasional Saturday or Sunday morning ski? These things are possible. . . on a personal note, I hope to recapture my Eastern Region Jump Record (it was broken by 1 foot in August) and do the same for my National ranking (#1 in 2002), which means that I will have to be somewhat selfish with my time next season for personal practice. . . that also means that I may not be as available to pull on ski nights. We do have some members with boats that may have to step up to the plate for pulling. . . remember, it is not necessary to have a "real" ski boat for much of our activities. . . and outboard or "I/O" would do just fine. We may be doing a ski show in conjunction with the Webster Fireworks, so we will be looking for some show skiers relatively early in the season. . . you should have each received your September and October issues of The Water Skier . . . look through those issues at the show skiers and appreciate the talent and effort required to perform a 4-hgh pyramid (& most everything else they do also)... I think according to the By-Laws, the new-president is supposed to take over on the calendar year. . . I am jump starting things a little because of the anticipated reunion (probably sometime in March/April). . . I will try to keep you informed of "What's happening" via a newsletter every 6 weeks or so. . . if you have something that you wish to contribute or would like to see addressed, let me know. . . FYI. . .for those that don't know. I will be your 2004 season President with Rhoda as the co-chair. . .Norma & Buzzie have consented (with only a LITTLE arm twisting) to retain their positions as scribe and treasurer. . . I don't have a list of the remainder of the Board at the moment. Will give you a treasurers report in the next newsletter. My congratulations to the MARIANAPOLIS skiers (Dale, Hideki & Tatsuki) for the loooong way they cam in one season. . . hope to see them next season. . .also for Jake Kaczmarek for being the first Boy Scout that I signed off for the WATERSKIING merit badge. . . can't forget my son Jim for his personal best of 158 feet at AVON on Sept 6th. . . also Dan Desmaris and son Dave for their performances at the Eastern Regionals. . . remember you will have to compete with ME next season!!! Hope this note has been informative. . . also hope to see you at the meeting if you can make it. . . . Ron |
